Pyrenoids are organelles found in algae and hornwarts(non vascular plants) and they serve as the centers for CO₂ fixation. Pyrenoids are not membrane-bound, but specialized areas of the plastid that contain high levels of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase.
